Multipoint Technology is coming on hard!

Point to multipoint technology has become a very viable solution for many government organizations, education sytems, and enterprises.  It is also an excellent choice for the latest evolution in telecommunications connectivity, the Wireless Internet Service Provider.  SpeedLIN is fully up to speed on this technology and is leading with the Alvarion Breezenet VL for high performance Enterprise systems.

What is Point to Multipoint Technology?

This technology allows a campus type of organization to provide connectivity between multiple buildings without having a Telecommunications provider install a separate circuit for each building.  This saves a great deal of money on a month to month reoccuring basis.  Here is how:

Let's say we are a midsized company which has rapidly grown.  We currently have a headquarters, a sales office across the street, and a warehouse one mile away.  We currently have three T-1 circuits leased from the local telephone company, one for each building at $1000.00 each providing a pipe 1.544 Mbps to each location for data.  That would give us a monthly bill to the circuit provider of $3000.00 a month ($36000.00 annually).  We decide to field the Proxim Tsunami Multipoint system.  After calling SpeedLIN (of course!) they come and do a free site survey and tell us about the technology, addressing throughput speeds, assessing our current bandwidth requirements, addressing security, warranty, service contract, etc.  SpeedLIN verifies that visual and RF line of sight exist between the three sites and provides a written, guaranteed proposal.

The proposal states SpeedLIN will install two multipoint base stations on our headquarters roof.  Each base station unit has a 60 degree sector but the other two buildings are separated by 80 degrees (compass heading) so we must use two base station units, one for each subsciber unit on the other two roofs.  The installation of the base station units, subscriber units,  and one year service contract comes to $16,000.00.  SpeedLIN and our network administrator decide that the aggregate bandwidth for all three locations can be serviced with only one T-1 instead of three.  That means our company will save $24,000.00 dollars a year and we will pay for the system in only 8 months!  If our company needed two of the T-1s we would still save $12,000.00 annually and the system would still pay for itself in 16 months.  Furthermore, if we need another facility and it is within 6 miles of our headquarters and has line of site, we need only buy another subsciber unit to provide data connectivity to it!
